Baseball Notes

After Manny Ramirez turned down the Dodgers latest offer of a $25-million, one-year contract with a $20-million player option for 2010, it's now time for them to cut the cord and let Manny go.

If he doesn't want to play, he doesn't want to play.

Millions of Americans are getting laid off and losing homes, yet $25 million for a season of playing baseball is not enough for him? I guess there is no recession in Mannyland.

It's quite possible that this guy is just as out of touch with the American people as our Government.

Earlier in the off season I advocated for Manny Ramirez going to the Mets, but at this point this clown is not worth the baggage.

It looks like Johan Santana may have to sit out until May, not good news for the New York Mets. Maine, Pelfrey and Perez are solid two, three and four guys, but not ace, two and three.

Getting by for a month with Neise, Livian Hernandez or Freddy Garcia won't be too much of a setback, but if Santana needs any more time than that the Mets may need to go looking for some pitching, which could put a kink in the plan of coming up with a big bat at the trading deadline.

Johan has shown to be a workhorse throughout his career, so the worry may be for naught.
